Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Please read our FAQ page, if there’s any other questions you have please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Who can volunteer?
Anyone can volunteer.  At the Volunteer Centre Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde we are committed to Equal Opportunities and believe that everyone can volunteer.

There may be opportunities which have specific requirements due to the nature of the role, if you are uncertain or have any questions about an opportunity please talk to one of our volunteering advisors.

Does Volunteering affect state benefits?
One of the most frequently asked questions is 'Will volunteering affect my benefits?'

The answer is No.  If you are on Job Seekers Allowance you can volunteer but must be actively looking for work and available for interviews for jobs or with your Job Centre Advisor.  If you claim Income Support volunteering should not affect you as long as you are not receiving any money other than reimbursement of expenses.  If you are in receipt of Incapacity Benefit you can volunteer as much as you would like to.

We do advise that you inform the Job Centre if you are in receipt of any State Benefit and volunteering.

Costs for volunteers looking for opportunities?
We do not charge any fees to support any individual member of the public to find a volunteering opportunity.

Costs for organisations seeking to advertise their opportunities?

We do not charge any fees to advertise volunteering opportunities for non-profit groups/registered charities.  We do require organisations to agree to the standards of our Volunteer Charter and may refuse to advertise or promote groups or activities that we believe do not meet volunteering standards.
